The Weston-super-Mare RFC Foundation
While Rugby to some is just a game, the sport itself creates a family, people who want to support one another when times are difficult.
Weston-super-Mare RFC has long been a place that offers support for those that need it.
We started the foundation last year with the aim of helping children and families access the Rugby family, where this would otherwise not be possible for financial or other reasons.
Our large mini, juniors and roses section at our Club and the ethos from the start has always been, to help those in need. This can be through friendships on and off the field, particularly for those that find it hard to “fit in” at school, or mentoring, or providing an outlet for those that need a focus.
As a Club we strive to keep memberships costs low and have regular swapshops to provide as much second hand kit as possible for our families, however, this coming winter will see more families struggling to pay their bills, making their difficult financial situations even worse. This inevitably puts a strain on family life and affects the children.
The children in our communities need an outlet, a place they can just be with their friends. They need now more than ever to keep fit and healthy; we know exercise helps mental health and with people having to make choices in what food they buy, their diets may suffer. It is really important they remain active. We are not just a sports Club, we see ourselves as a vital part of our community, sporting ability is not important, we welcome all.
This is why the Weston-super-Mare RFC Foundation is such an important part of what we do as a Club, and its success will ensure opportunities for many and a healthy future for our Club community.
Our aim is to breakdown the financial barriers, helping families gain access to rugby, provide financial support for memberships, kit, boots, gum shields etc. A hot meal each week and a support network for them and their families, most importantly giving them somewhere to go at the weekend, something to look forward to.
In time our vision is to provide mentoring through their time at the Club, possible job opportunities or apprenticeships though senior players, members, past players and our relationships with local businesses.

We all lead busy lives, so if you cannot spare the time to help, but are more fortunate than most, please consider sponsoring a child, or a one off or regular contribution, the benefits it will bring to these children is enormous.
The foundation is a financially independent arm of the Club, and all funds ringfenced. Whilst we won’t be able to share personal details, you will receive updates and acknowledgements of how your funds are helping
Currently we are supporting six Families and children, in some way but we hope with your help we can expand further.
