The fast-paced, physical nature of rugby at Weston-super-Mare is one of the many reasons that second row Louis Brooker has joined the Regional 1 Tribute South West newcomers.
Brooker started playing junior rugby at Bristol Saracens before switching to Avonmouth Old Boys. There were also spells for Louis with Bristol Bears Academy and the South Gloucestershire and Stroud College at Filton.
“I have joined Weston-super-Mare at a very exciting time for the club, having been promoted as unbeaten champions to Regional 1 Tribute South West,” said 21-year-old Brooker.
“I’m looking to strengthen my knowledge of the game. Weston provides a great challenge for me, going from my childhood club playing at Counties 3 rugby to Regional 1, and I hope I can make a positive impact.”
During his time with Avonmouth Old Boys, the club won the Bristol & District Butcombe Bowl and the Counties 3 Tribute Gloucestershire South league title in 2024-2025, losing just one of their 22 matches.
The delayed league season finally gets underway on Saturday (September 26) when Weston 1stXV host Newent, ko: 3 pm; Weston United are away to Bridgwater & Albion 2ndXV, ko: 3 pm, while Weston Athletic are home to Crewkerne, ko: 2.30 pm.
