MINUTE SILENCE IN MEMORY OF TWO FORMER WESTON CAPTAINS

Clayton Hope and Peter Jenkins RIP

Players, officials and supporters observed a one-minute silence ahead of the Bournemouth in memory of Weston-super-Mare RFC stalwarts who have passed away.

The Club is sad to pass on the news of the deaths of two members.

Peter S Jenkins made 129 appearances for Weston-super-Mare and was captain in 1969-70. The prop had made his debut for Bath in November 1964 and made 87 appearances, the last being in October 1967.

He was very involved across the county in coaching when his playing days were over. Sons Alan and Barry both played for Weston, and the Club offers sincere condolences to Peter’s family and friends.

H Clayton Hope was an outstanding scrum-half and partnered his great friend and fellow Welshman, fly-half Gerry Williams for many seasons.

Clayton was captain in the 1959/60 season and again in the 1965/66 campaign. Clayton served for several years on the Committee when he had ended his time as a player, having made 271 appearances.

He was Honorary Secretary between 1992 and 1999 and was a regular spectator until recently. Son Russell carried on the Hope rugby dynasty, and more recently, Clayton’s grandson Ollie Trott played scrum-half for Colts, United and in the First team. The Club offers its sincerest condolences to Clayton’s family.

Funeral arrangement will be published here on the Club website, when available.
