Two former Bristol Bears Academy players are the latest players to put pen to paper as Weston-super-Mare prepares for the challenge of returning to the Regional 1 Tribute Ale South West league for the coming season, having finished their last campaign unbeaten.
Full back Will Crane, 21, and scrum half Dax Blyth both join from National 2 South West neighbours Hornets as they look to secure a regular place in the Weston 1stXV and agree that they are joining an exciting team full of potential and experience.
Crane, who can also play centre or at fly-half, started his rugby journey with Weston Minis before moving to Hornets Juniors and was part of the Somerset County Youth set-up. The Electrical Engineering student has played at the Rosslyn Park Sevens and was part of the University of the West of England 1stXV.
Blyth began his rugby with Burnham-on-Sea, Weston-super-Mare, as well as the Somerset County age-grade structure, before joining the Hornets Colts. The 20-year-old says he is equally at home playing on the wing or at scrum half.
Representative honours have seen him play for the Welsh Exiles against Cardiff Academy at the Arms Park, South Gloucestershire & Stroud College, and he was captain of the Bristol Bears Academy U16s against their Gloucester counterparts at Kingsholm.
With the pre-season training for the senior squad now well underway, the Club will turn its attention to sprucing up its facilities on its annual Clean-up Day on Saturday, August 1 from 9.30 am. Supporters are asked to come along, even if it is for just an hour to help with the preparations for the new season.
