Dave Healy appointed Weston Head Coach

27 JUNE 2008

Dave Healy is the new head coach at Weston Rugby Club.

The former Avonmouth and Bristol Saracens No 8 stood down as Clifton boss at the end of last season after six years.

He his joined at Weston by the ex-Seasiders' skipper and former Bristol Saracens coach Paul Redman. The pair replaces Pete Sloman, who has stood down after two years at the helm.

"I am looking forward to the challenge," said Healy. "I have already rung a few players and they seem positive and passionate about the club."

Healy added: "I did want to take some time off and Clifton also offered me a couple of roles, but I didn't want to hang around like a bad smell. I know new coach John Barnes was happy for me to stay."

Barnes, who worked as Healy's assistant last season, will come face to face with his former boss with Clifton having been relegated to South West 1 from National Division 3 South.

Former coach Sloman, who says he will remain involved with Weston next season in some role, backed Healy to succeed.

"The committee has appointed well. I know Dave personally, and I know he will do a good job," said Sloman.

"I am very pleased about the decision. Dave comes with a lot of experience.
