Regional 1 Tribute South West
Chew Valley 51 Weston-super-Mare 10
Apart from a James Mackay penalty on the stroke of half-time and then a conversion of Cameron Maslen's try very close to the final whistle Weston were completely outplayed by an excellent Chew side who are competing in this division for the first time in their history.
They were very well drilled and obviously were playing to a well thought out game plan which Weston aided and abetted with gusto throughout.
An alarming lack of reactive defence together with an inability to put together even the most basic of play patterns resulted in this thorough drubbing. They looked off the pace throughout despite the hard working Sam Coles trying to keep things together.
But after going into the break somehow only ten points in arrears when you allow four converted tries from very similar situations in the opening ten minutes of the second half by not realising or not making any attempt at catching the box kicks or at least trying to lay a hand on the opposition you are asking for trouble.
Hopefully this was just a glitch but if this performance is going to be repeated only one of these teams will be pressing for promotion and it won't be Weston.
This was hopefully as bad as it gets.
