Weston-super-Mare 41 Walcot Old Boys 5
WESTON moved through to the semi-finals of the Somerset Cup with this comfortable victory over Walcot Old Boys at the Rec on Tuesday evening.
After failing with early penalties from 40 and 30 metres, James Mackay was on target to give the Seasiders a ninth minute lead. Near the end of the first quarter, Josef Harris touched down his first try for the club and after Ashley Russell had stolen two Walcot line-outs, Mackay's penalty took Weston to a 11-0 lead.
This became 16-0 when David Burge was driven over and Mackay's third penalty gave the hosts a 19-point advantage at the break.
During the interval, Chris Young replaced Mackay at fly-half and kicked a penalty, and as the Seasiders began to take charge, a break by Mark Armstrong provided a try for Sean Bennett.
Young converted, and replacement David Steele was next on the scoresheet from short range.Neil Meade scored a consolation try for the visitors but Weston had the final word with Paul Sprague's try, converted by Young.
Weston will now meet Winscombe in the semi-final at Yatton RFC on Sunday. The kick off is at 2.30pm.
