Bristol Harlequins RFC

Weston United bounced back from a defeat away to Avon last time out by cruising to a 64-7 home victory over Bristol Harlequins in the Tribute Somerset Premier. The hosts ran in ten tries, including three each for wing Mike McCarthy and centre Hayden Main.

The home side had built up a 38-7 half time lead, having secured a try-scoring bonus point in the opening 19 minutes after three touchdowns from Main and two from McCarthy and one for inside centre Jon Filer.

Main added four first-half conversions while Bristol Harlequins struck close to half time with a try from outside centre Lee Pearn which was converted by fly-half Dave Priddy. But that was to be their only points of the game.

Full-back Ross Bennett, the United skipper, crossed for the next United try ten minutes into the second half. Fly-half Chris Young was the next to cross the whitewash, Main converted, but Young was yellow-carded five minutes later.

McCarthey completed his hat-trick, Main converted, before Young returned from the sin-bin to claim the final try, which he duly converted. The victory sees the United move up to sixth place in the table while Bristol Harlequins are eleventh.
