On the occasion of lock Ashley Russell’s three hundred and seventy fifth appearance for the first team Weston ran in eight tries to overcome a spirited performance by their opponents.
Weston started slowly and Cents arrived on the home team line following a couple of home infringements but Weston’s defence held out and fly half James Mackay eventually relieved the pressure.
A run by fullback Jack Curtis followed by a break by scrum half Jack Press led to a penalty which Mackay slotted over to open the scoring.
The visitors hit back straight away with a converted try by their captain Sam Preece.
Weston reacted to this setback well and another great break by Curtis led to Cents impressive number eight being yellow carded. With the opponent’s down a man Weston took full advantage when captain Tom Sugg powered his way over to give Mackay a simple conversion.
Cents hit back and only a timely steel by on form flanker Sam Fisher and a try saving tackle by Curtis stopped the visitors from regaining the lead.
With their defence which has on the whole been excellent so far this season Weston gradually imposed themselves on the game. Centre Cameron Maslen cut a fine line to cross on the stroke of half-time with Mackay again providing the extras.
The second half produced some wonderful rugby by Weston. A first 50-22 of the season by Mackay led to a home line out which after the ball was recycled ended in the hands of tight head prop Ollie Streeter who barrelled over. Mackay again providing the extras.
It was shortly after this that Fisher who had once again been influential had to leave the field with a nasty looking ankle injury.
With the scrum in full flow Centralians were struggling to gain any control and the penalties were mounting up. Streeter crossed for his second before a quick tap by the visitorsMike Mathers caught the home side napping to reduce the lead.
Weston continued to attack and a line out produced quick ball and an absolute belter of a pass by excellent centre Huw Morgan put left wing Joe Burgess over. Mackay again adding the extras as he did soon after when replacement Ben Tothill dabbed down from a pushover.
The superb Mackay was replaced late on by Dan Lomax who provided an audacious cross field kick fielded by Curtis to give right wing Harry Jones the simplest of scores which Lomax converted as he did again on the stroke of full time when Jones again crossed to round off a scintillating second half.
The game was once again built on defence and an incredible pack who just keep getting better. This is allowing the backs some fine opportunities and in this game they took them with aplomb.
