Weston-super-Mare RFC

Tribute Somerset 2 North

Old Redcliffians 3rdXV 23 Weston Athletic 7

Athletic travelled to Brislington with a much changed side but still able to field a competitive outfit despite several players being out of position.

Weston started well and pushed the Old Reds defence hard and soon had them pinned inside their 22.

Despite a long clearance kick Old Reds were back in defence following a penalty kick to touch by captain Dan Prime. Weston took their line out well and drove at the Old Reds line.

Lock Collins broke loose from the maul and crashed over for a try converted by Prime to give Weston an early lead.

The well organised Old Reds side closed down Weston's attacks and mounted their own.

It was all very close and at half time the score, following a try and a penalty for Old Reds was just 10-7 to the home side.

During Old Reds late first half pressure Weston incurred two yellow cards and face a difficult time with only 13 men on the pitch yet they had their best spell with players all working very hard.

Tottle put in a number of excellent tackles and veteran Steele put in a great shift.

The game remained very close and it could have gone either way but for two quite fortunate scores for Old Reds at the end of the game which gave them a deserved victory but by a slightly flattering margin.

Weston will hope to be back to full strength for their remaining fixtures.
