Tor 25 Weston United 5

With twenty plus senior players either injured or not available, Weston had to call on the services of Dave Burge and Stuart Board to help out. Weston knew that they would be up against it as they travelled to play a Tor side that hadn't played a game for four weeks.

Tor scored an early converted try following a catch and drive at the lineout by their forwards.

Weston replied eight minutes later with what was definitely the try of the match. Credit must be given to the Weston backs who spun the ball wide in atrocious conditions and winger Troy Hannam was able to round his opponent with ease to score in the corner.

Tor then added a penalty as Weston were penalised for not releasing the tackled player. Twenty minutes had now passed and it was impossible to tell who was who as the rain lashed down and the Tor pitch turned into a mud bath. Tor went in at the break with a 10-5 lead.

At the start of the second half Tor added another three as the Weston forwards were caught offside.

On the hour mark Tor scored another try through their very rotund forwards. Weston never gave up to their credit and they continued to try and play some rugby with impressive centre Huw Morgan making several inroads.

Tor added another converted try towards the end of the match again through their pack.

The scoreline didn't really reflect the game as Weston had vast amounts of possession but kicked it away poorly. The Weston pack which was probably half the size of Tor's held their own in the scrum and the set piece was evenly matched.

Weston were committed to the end and never let their heads drop and replacement winger Joe McGrath made some great breaks when he was introduced.

Hopefully the weather will improve before next weekends match at the Rec against local rivals and title contenders Winscombe.
