Tribute Somerset 2 North
Weston Athletic 42 Stothert & Pitt 2ndXV 13
Things got off to an outstanding start when the ball was caught and quickly moved wide from the kick off. Winger Ben Wheeler ran through two attempted tackles to score the opening try with just 40 seconds on the clock.
Weston were dominant in all areas of the game but Stothert's defence held until Aaron Solomon touched down after a driving maul with 15 minutes gone.
Weston looked to be running away with the game as they scored three more tries from skipper Dan Prime, Harry Jones, and Ben Wheeler's second in the next twenty minutes, Weston rounded off the first half when Solomon got his second touch down from another driving maul.
Despite leading by 32-3 at half time and scoring after just three minutes of the second half when Sam Fisher burst through the Stothert defence Weston were unable to keep up the free scoring performance.
The game had been reduced to uncontested scrums as Stothert had no front row replacement and the game slowed right down as a result.
Determined and better organised defence prevented Weston from cutting loose.
Stothert scored after a good break and excellent support play.
Weston re-asserted themselves and with the backs reorganised Jon Filer made a clean break and scored a well worked try.
Stothert scored a late consolation try but Weston, who had looked superior all game ran out worthy winners, moving up to third in the table.
