Weston Athletic 47 Nailsea & Backwell 10

Weston athletic started energetically and quickly ran up a 14 point lead against Nailsea with tries by Dave Bird and by Dan Prime.

Nailsea were not about to give up and in a spirited riposte they scored a good try following a break out by their talented fly half who offloaded well to his inside centre who scored near the posts. They followed this up with a penalty after pressure from their forwards forced an infringement.

Weston's captain Nash rallied his troops and the team got back into the game gradually taking control and they scored their third try when Wheeler was put away through the centre after the forwards had driven well into their opponents half.

Weston's 11 point half time lead was soon extended as The Athletic sought to run away with the game. Replacement flanker Smit touched down after another series of recycled possession, but with a number of stoppages for injury the next 20 minutes were scrappy and disjointed.

Weston finally got well clear of plucky Nailsea in the last 15 minutes as they ran in three more tries, Wheeler and Prime both crossing and Nash joining in with a powerful run to the posts. Two further tries were disallowed but with Prime in great form with the boot converting six of the teams 7 tries, Weston had nailed the game and ran out worthy winners by 47-10.

A high point of the afternoon was the celebration of veteran second row Laszlo Noszkay reaching 100 appearances for the side.

This sixth win from 7 starts put Weston Athletic in first place in Tribute Somerset 2 North, a position they should be able to consolidate with a win next week away to Culverhay.
