Tribute Somerset 2 North

Weston Athletic 22 Imperial 2ndXV 10

Weston went in search of their 19th win against a side they had beaten earlier in the season away from home.

They started brightly and from the first attack after quickly recycled ball following a break by Monelle, Prime scampered through the stretched defence and scored a try which was not converted.

Monelle had picked up a facial injury and he was replaced by Chad Smit. He had not long been on the pitch before he broke from a maul and with two defenders clinging to him forced his way over the line for a try converted by Prime.

Imperial however regrouped and applied pressure through their large and mobile back row. Weston's defence withstood the pressure but eventually the imperial forwards forced a try which they converted.

They continued to apply pressure through their forwards and shortly before half time were rewarded with a penalty to leave Athletic with a narrow 12-10 half time lead.

Captain Graham Hill, in the continued absence of Walker, gave a stirring half time team talk and the second half saw Weston firmly in control.

They dealt with the infrequent Imperial attacks and used the wind advantage to good effect pinning Imperial well inside their own half for most of the rest of the game.

A neat chip by Prime saw Filer race through, collect and then dodge past the remaining defender to score under the posts with Prime converting the try.

The last quarter saw Athletic mount a series of attacks on the Imperial line in search of the bonus point fourth try but the visitors defence just held them but did concede a penalty, kicked by Prime for Weston to run out worthy winners 22-10 as they completed the double over the visiting Bristol outfit.
