Weston Athletic proved much too strong for the visiting Old Reds side and took revenge for the narrow loss earlier in the season when they had visited the Brislington outfit.

The early exchanges were even and Old Reds clearly had the heavier pack but it was Weston who opened the scoring after good work down the right wing, the inside pass from McCarthy found scrum half Lomax and his chip and chase brought the first try with Lomax scoring and then converting his effort.

The Weston backs were causing all sorts of problems and on 20 minutes McCarthy sliced through the defence to score under the posts. Lomax converted again and from the restart Weston attacked immediately.

A neat break by Prime set the backs off again and some great interplay between them saw Prime deliver a neat pass to debutant Harry Flower who crossed the whitewash for the third athletic try.

Weston were now taking control in the forwards and were dominating both set piece and loose play. Following good work by the whole pack and pressure from the backs, replacement Burns scorched through to score near the posts and with a third conversion by Lomax Weston were in complete control at the interval with 26 points on the board without reply.

Things carried on in the same vein after the break and Josh Wheeler was on hand for the Athletic's first try of the second half.

The Athletic looked set for a cricket score but as in the match earlier in the season Old Reds were unable to maintain scrummaging and the game went to uncontested scrums.

This allowed Old Reds to get secure clean possession and their backs applied some pressure of their own. The Athletic had taken their foot off the gas and Old Reds scored two quick and rather soft tries.

This spurred Weston into a better collective effort and they moved the ball out wide. Flower was unlucky on two occasions when a score looked certain as passes were adjudged forward.

The match was sealed by a great charge by centre Ben Wheeler who forced his way over to score Weston’s sixth try as the referee called time on a great afternoon for the Athletic who have now won their last eight games in a row
