Somerset Premier Division
Weston United 49 Stothert & Pitt 17
WESTON United registered their seventh win in nine matches in the Somerset Premier Division when they scored seven tries against Stothert & Pitt at the Recreation Ground.
There was also some expert goal kicking by centre Luke Blizzard, whose unerring accuracy saw him convert them all from various angles.
They led by 42-0 at the interval and a landslide looked likely, but the visitors had other ideas and the hosts were able to add just one more try in the second half.
Weston had started strongly with No 8 Paul Morrissey crossing after just 42 seconds and four minutes later, lock Harry Somers was over for their second try.
After finding themselves on the defensive for the following 15 minutes, Chris Young relieved the pressure with an interception to run 35 metres to the posts and when full-back Carl Fletcher was stopped on the line, prop Darren Doughty was driven over for the bonus point try.
Morrissey’s second touchdown arrived on the half-hour and skipper Paul Sprague’s superb counter attack handed a try to scrum-half Sean Disney for that 42 point advantage at the break.
Stotherts started the second half well with Liam Crooks’ penalty, but more interceptions then became the order of the day.
