AVONMOUTH OLD BOYS 11 pts WESTON 50 pts
WESTON started the second half of their season in fine style with this seven-try demolition at Avonmouth.
They found themselves behind twice during the first half-hour, but by the break they were gradually pulling away.
Matthew Watkins’ run down the left flank was halted on the line, but quick recycling and slick passing saw Ross Bennett enter the line at pace to touch down.
However, after that, the Seasiders spent the next 17 minutes defending stoutly before Avonmouth were rewarded with Wearnes’ second penalty.
But Weston had weathered the storm and in the 37th minute, a clever run by scrum-half Dan Waldon delivered a try by George Sparks.
James Mackay had failed to convert either of Weston’s scores, but as the interval approached, the fly-half kicked a brace of penalties to take the score to 6-16.
Mackay converted and he was soon adding the extras to a try by Sylvan Edwards, who had been unlucky to have his score disallowed in the 13th minute.
The visitors were now 30-6 ahead but as fighting broke out near the home line, skipper David Burge and his opposite number were both yellow carded, but from the next scrum, Sparks scored his second try from the pushover.
The hosts then reduced the arrears with an unconverted try by replacement Chris Hamilton, but when Weston resumed their attack, Mackay kicked his third penalty before converting a try by James Arnold who had replaced Watkins.
And it was Mackay’s long break which presented Edwards with his second try to reach the team’s half-century.
