SSE National League 3 South West
Oxford Harlequins nil Weston-super-Mare 90
IN the 32nd minute at North Hinksey, Harry Jones scored a try to put the Seasiders 29 points ahead, and by the hour mark, the young centre had completed his hat-trick as the Quins were put to the sword.
It was the second time this season that Weston had racked up 90 points, the first being against Maidenhead in September. On that occasion their opponents had replied with a solitary try. But this time there was no reposte from the hosts.
No 8 George Sparks was next, three minutes later, when he ran in from 25 metres. James Mackay converted both scores and the visitors were on their way.
Hooker David Burge then scored a brace of unconverted tries from line-out drives provided by Ashley Russell and Sparks before Jones’ first score.
Just before the break flanker Grady Wright touched down and skipper Gavin Simpson’s perfect delivery sent replacement wing Matthew Watkins on a 70 metre run to the posts to take the interval score to 0-43, Mackay having added three more conversions.
Wing Sam Smee was on the scoresheet with two tries early in the second half before Jones completed his hat-trick.
Watkins was soon scoring his second try, closely followed by the hard-working Edwards, and in time added, another drive was completed by replacement prop, veteran Mark Matthews. Mackay’s 10th conversion followed.
Weston are now the highest points scorers in National 3 South West with 461 from their 10 matches. They have also conceded the least (151).
