Barnstaple RFC
Weston-super-Mare RFC

BARNSTAPLE 27 pts   WESTON 16 pts

SIXTEEN minutes into the second half, Weston had fought back to 17-16 at Pottington Road, but in the final 10 minutes they conceded a fourth try and a penalty to come away pointless.

Soon after the start, the Seasiders were ahead with James Mackay’s penalty and for the following 20 minutes, they were inside the Barnstaple 22.

But they were unable to capitalise against a strong defence and when the hosts eventually broke out, centre Johnny Carter was the try scorer. Fly-half Neil Giddy converted for a lead that they were never to lose.

Mackay’s second penalty followed, but Barnstaple scored again through wing Toby Williamson for a 12-6 interval advantage.

But the second half started well for Weston, Mackay’s third penalty taking him past 100 points for the season in only 10 matches. However, another try for Williamson arrived to take the score to 17-9.

Weston’s line-out had been non-productive so far, but from one such set piece in the 56th minute, Ashley Russell galloped through a gap and after three phases, Mackay dummied his way over at the posts, his conversion posting that 17-16 scoreline.

However, it was going to be Barnstaple’s day after replacement Ryan Carter crossed, Giddy adding the conversion and a late penalty.
