Somerset 3

Morganians 0 pts Weston Athletic 74 pts

SKIPPER Grahame Hill and his Athletic XV got off to the best possible start in Somerset 3 when they demolished Morganians by 12 tries without reply.

The match was switched from the waterlogged Recreation Ground to Chedzoy Lane and the Athletic were soon off the mark when veteran Chris Heath touched down at the right corner.

Former Colts centre John Filer was next on the scoresheet with two quick tries and before the interval, Matt Deacon, having won a line-out, was on the end of the resultant move to score try number four.

Conversions by Jim Morris and Neil Sharp took the score to 24-0.Weston virtually sealed the match in the first minute of the second half when replacement full-back Sam Hedges crossed.

David Steele then turned back the clock with a blistering 40-metre run which took him to the line and with Morris converting both scores, Weston's lead stretched to 38.

Flanker James Matthews was next to score and another former Colt, James Arnold, used his pace to touch down his team's eighth try, following a break by Jon Richardson.

Wing Pete Hudson then scored at the right corner, following good work by Morris and replacement James Hedges, and Arnold scored his second following another 50-metre sprint.

Pete Hudson and James Hedges completed the scoring with Sam Hedges adding two conversions.
