Tribute Somerset 3 South

Weston Athletic 45 North Petherton 2ndXV 12

The Athletic were keen to field a strong side this weekend following their previous week's defeat to Minehead and this fixture produced the turn out Weston required with regular Athletic players making themselves available.

Weston kicked off to North Petherton and young Moig imposed himself on the game from the start with a superb tackle on the receiving North Petherton player driving him back and giving Weston the early impetus.

Basic forward work provided a superb platform for scrum half Coleman linking with fly half Richardson and early on the returning wing, Williams crossed for his first try.

The out wide kick was dealt with by Coleman who collected the extras and was anticipating a call to the England squad.

North Petherton continued throughout the game to offer stiff resistance to the Athletic however this was not enough and the forwards winning good first and second phase ball allowed the attractive Athletic backs to rack up the points.

Williams collecting a second, Smith a single, Ruben Burns, two and man of the match flanker A Larkin crossing to claim a try for himself. Coleman’s kicking remained constant missing only one of the six conversions to collect the extras for the remainder.

At the interval Weston were leading 40-0 with manager for the day Philp ringing the changes and swapping some of the older heads for younger players seeing a return for H Hunt and H Minell.

North Petherton however were not a beaten side and in the second half came out the winners, collecting two tries and the extras to one with only Whatley on the wing offering a response.

The try in itself was a superb display of athleticism as the old fella galloped to collect Richardson's kick behind the North Petherton defence and sprint the length of the pitch to score.
