Somerset 2
Weston United 50 Crewkerne 7
United started their league campaign with a convincing win over Crewkerne who provided resolute opposition throughout.
Indeed, the visitors were first to score with a long-range effort created by their outstanding outside-centre and finished off well.
After this, United scored at regular intervals but will be disappointed not to have made more of a number of opportunities they created.
However by half time they led 24-7 much due to some clinical finishing by James Arnold who had bagged a hat-trick in the space of 20 minutes.Dave Taylor had also crossed as well as converting two of the tries.
The second half continued in similar vein with United forwards creating a solid platform for the backs, which were well directed by Jack Allen and Ben Main, to create opportunities for the outside backs.
Dafydd Wilson-Evans crossed, along with Jon Filer who bagged a brace of tries.
The scoring was finished by Chris Hurd who benefited from a superb switch pass from James Gallagher. Taylor converted three of the four second half-tries.
A promising first league display under the new captaincy of Tom Wheatley, but the side will need to be more clinical when tougher opposition is faced. However all 50 points were scored by the outside three-quarters, reflecting the style of rugby the team tried to play.
FLANKER James Matthews made his 100th appearance for United in their defeat Crewkerne in Somerset 2.
