Bournemouth 44 Weston-super-Mare 10

Weston-super-Mare suffered their heaviest defeat since their National League days when they went down by seven tries to one at Chapel Gate.

In a lack-lustre display, the Seasiders were never in the match, after which skipper David Burge commented: "We simply failed to turn up."

The first half can only be described as fractious. After Bournemouth had gone ahead with Tim Gray's try, Weston's George Sparks received a kick to the head off the ball, and there were at least three fights among the forwards.

But they responded with a long run by Kirk Middlemiss and a 40-metre penalty attempt by James Mackay struck a post.

But when the visitors lost possession inside the home 22, Bournemouth countered with a long try by Sam Hardcastle, Mike Pope converted and then Middlemiss spilled a kick into the hand of Callum Forrest who galloped to the line.

Pope converted again to take the score to 19-0 in only 15 minutes. Then Mackay and Pope exchanged penalties

On 32 minutes, Weston scored their solitary try when Roger Drabble's box kick was secured by the pack and Chris Crichton's accurate angle took him to the posts and Mackay converted.

Gray soon added his second try and just before the interval Bournemouth's Matt Kiely was fortunate to receive only a yellow card when he punched Burge in the head and the skipper was forced to retire three minutes into the second half.

The remainder of the match was one-way traffic as the Dorset club added a second try by Hardcastle, James Payne and Gray, who completed his hat-trick. Replacement Martyn Lever converted one.
