REDINGENSIANS 24 pts WESTON 18 pts
ALTHOUGH their pack was generally on the back foot and their goal-kicking was severely off target, Weston were leading with 10 minutes of normal time remaining at Sonning.
They led again as stoppage time commenced, but they lost out to the hosts' third try three minutes later.Mark Armstrong failed with a 25-metre penalty attempt in the fifth minute, but the fly-half soon made amends with an interception try.
But again his kick sailed wide and Ben Main fared no better with a 30-metre shot. But the visitors went to 10-nil following David Burge's kick to the corner, after which Tobias Gukibau touched down from a driven line-out.
The easy conversion failed again and by the 25th minute, four attempted kicks had failed to yield points.Armstrong was then dispatched to the sinbin and Redingensians were back in the match with Jevon Marsh's try which he converted himself.
After the break, Weston were under more pressure, but they went further ahead.
Powerful thrusts by Tom Gilmour and William Tuitupou preceded a move down the right flank which saw Matthew Burns put Kevin Hobbs in at the right corner.
The conversion attempt failed to make the distance and as the hosts got stronger up front, Burns and Harry Warman reverted to defensive mode to save a certain score.
But Redingensians were not to be denied and replacement Jeremy Flynn's break gave Marsh his second try which he again converted, and Marsh added a penalty when Andrew Richards was yellow carded.
The hosts were now deservedly in the lead at 17-15, but the Seasiders, with Hobbs in exceptional form, attacked again and Armstrong's well-struck penalty gave his team a single point advantage.
But victory was not to be as Marsh had the final word with his third try, his conversion from the touchline giving him all his team's points.
This was a disappointing set-back for Weston, who suffered yet another injury with Takura Madamombe likely to be sidelined with possible rib fractures.
Saturday's match against relegation candidates Reading at the Recreation Ground will be no foregone conclusion.
