Wells 29 Weston United 36

Weston United closed the gap on Counties 3 Tribute Ale Somerset South leaders Wells to two points as they took maximum league points as they sent their hosts to their first league defeat of the season.

Wells took the lead with a penalty but tries from hooker Adam Fisher, No.8 Matt James, second row Ross Chesher and outside centre Ratu Natabuturu secured the bonus point for the visitors within the opening 30 minutes.

Fly-half Dan Beer added one conversion for the United, but Wells were awarded a penalty try as the visitors collapsed a catch and try as the visitors went into the break with a 22-10 half time lead.

Beer’s conversion of wight wing Charlie Beal’s try stretched the United’s lead to 29-10 but the visitors, on the hour mark, had replacement front row Ethan Westlake sent for ten minutes in the sinbin.

Wells took advantage of the extra man to reduce the arrears with their second of the game only for the United to counter with a touchdown from skipper Charlie Brabham which was converted by Beer.

With 15 minutes still to play and the United back to full strength, Wells were determined to retain their unbeaten run but instead had to settle for two bonus point thanks to two late converted tries.

Weston United will complete their league campaign on Tuesday evening when they make the short journey to The Nest to face a Hornet 3rdXV who lost 47-26 at Martock on Saturday and are rooted at the foot of the table. Kick-off is at 7.30 pm.
