Counties 3 Tribute Ale Somerset South

Weston United 65 Martock 27

Weston United kept their hopes of clinching the Counties 3 Tribute Ale Somerset South title by running in 11 tries, including three from outside centre Tom Blyth, as they made it four wins in a row.

Fourth-placed United are ten points behind league leaders Wells, with both having five games remaining, including a clash between the pair on Saturday, April 25, at Charter Way, when the visitors will be looking to a 39-19 defeat in September.

The United had secured their try-scoring bonus point within the half hour thanks to tries from No.8 Shaun Eaton, second row Ross Chesher and a brace from Blyth with Eaton adding three conversions.

The hosts went into the break leading 43-3 after further tries from tighthead prop Sam Light, left wing Ed Davies and skipper Ashley Russell with Eaton adding another conversion to his tally.

Martock came back into the game in the second half, but the United kept them at bay with tries from hooker Dave Bird, full back Sam Hedges, a second from Chesher and Blyth completing his hat-trick.

Veteran second row Russell converted Chesher’s second try, but Blyth was unable to follow his captain’s example with his kick following his third try. Martock took a try-scoring bonus point and secure in this league for next season.

Weston United is next in action on Saturday (April 4) away to ninth-placed Crewkerne, who were 34-5 home winners over Hornets 3rdXV on Saturday.
