Weston United kept the pressure on three sides above them in the Counties 3 Tribute Ale Somerset South table as they outscored hosts North Petherton 2ndXV by nine tries to two at Beggars Brook.
Archie Tilsley marked his 100th appearance for Weston United by scoring 16 points off the kicking tee, while tighthead prop Sam Light completed a hat-trick of tries, and there was a brace from wing Oli Marshall.
The United went into the break with a commanding 40-7 lead and a try-scoring bonus point firmly in their grasp. Light’s three tries were accompanied by touchdowns from Marshall, full-back Sam Hedges and No.8 Brad Hebbard.
The scoreboard was less troubled in the second half, with the United adding to their account with tries from outside centre Matt James, replacement Blaine Tottle and Marshall’s second. Tilsley converted all three to add to his five in the first half.
Weston United are ten points behind league leaders Wells, both played 14 games, with second-placed Tor having played 17 games and third-placed Bridgwater & Albion 16. Weston United host seventh-placed Martock on Saturday, kick-off 2.30 pm.
