Our new look weston Roses kicked off today with an outstanding performance in front of a decent crowd of loyal Weston members!
The game started well for the Roses and we made a great break away early to score under the posts, Bella converted, Avonmouth came straight back at the Roses but the girls held firm and defended impressively.
A Surging run by Molly, was unfortunately knocked on and a penalty for Avonmouth was awarded.
The Roses girls were putting some Strong hits in and it was unbelievable to think some of these girls had never played before!!
Avonmouth piled the pressure on but the Roses defended with everything they had and held them up over the line, this was greeted with some loud cheers from the Roses players. The pressure continued and finally Avonmouth made it over the line and converted to bring the scores level 7-7. this was turning into a real Bruising encounter with quite a few Avonmouth players picking up some injuries. Weston continued to work hard and were flying into tackles, and with the ball in hand they were playing some very good rugby.
A penalty was awarded to Weston and an outstanding break from Layla ended up with her scoring under the post! Bella hits the post with the conversion,12-7 weston half time.
The roses made some changes and came flying out for the second half, a great Try for weston and What a kick from Jess to make the score 19-7
A Great run from Layla and Lilly, a quick switch of play and under the posts again, what a superb team effort.Bella converts and it's now 26-7. Avonmouth again came back at the Roses but Superb defence again from weston keeps Avonmouth out just by the try line 💪🏼
The Roses stamped their authority on the game again and their hard work paid off with another Try for weston, Jess missed conversion narrowly and the score was now 31-7. Moving into the last play of the game and a well worked Try for Avonmouth was scored, and one which they deserved as the battled amazingly and played the game in great spirits, the try was converted and the whistle went. An outstanding 31-14 Win for the roses!! What an incredible way to start our journey as a new team, well done coaches and girls for a brilliant game of rugby! 🌹💙💪🏼🏉
