Weston-super-Mare RFC

47 - 36

(HT 28-5)

Old Centralians RFC

The first action of any consequence took place in the ninth minute when left wing Hayden Main was put away and stopped near the line. Cents conceded a five metre scrum and centre Cameron Maslen ended up being held up over the line to give the visitors the drop out to relieve the pressure.

Weston were certainly creating chances but were thwarted on each occasion until Main was put away to open the scoring in the fourteenth minute following an excellent scrum. High scoring centre Archie Tilsley on his fiftieth appearance successfully converted by wide out.

Weston increased their lead when fullback Christopher Young cut through before passing to Maslen whose overhead pass put fly half George Nuttycombe in under the posts to make Tilsleys conversion an easy one.

Flanker Tom Lewis then got in on the act powering his way over following good hands by both forwards and backs. Tilsley again successful with the conversion.

Old Cents scored with their first meaningful attack in the thirty third minute but the conversion hit the post.

Weston immediately went down the other end and after nearly crossing they were awarded a penalty which they elected to scrum and after one abortive attempt the ball was released to the backs who in turn put Lewis over for his second under the posts to make Tilsleys conversion a simple one. This was the last meaningful action of the first half.

The second half started with a fantastic take by veteran number eight George Sparks who in turn offloaded to young prop Will Bamsey whose fifty metre gallop ended with Main going over for his second which Tilsley expertly converted from the touch line. Cents hit back straight away with a try of their own.

The visitors now came into the game applying pressure to the home line and their persistence was rewarded with yet another try again unconverted.

Weston seemed to think they had the game won but the visitors scored yet again this time under the posts successfully converted.

An interception by replacement right wing George Chapman led to Young scoring to relieve the pressure. Tilsley keeping his one hundred percent record.

Weston were still getting penalised with monotonous regularity and after replacement lock Ross Chesher was yellow carded Cents scored a converted try under the posts.

However Weston quickly responded when after yet another Lewis break fed  Young who found Chapman to shimmy over. This time Tilsley was unsuccessful.

Weston were once again down to fourteen when the excellent Sparks was yellow carded and the visitors scored a consolation converted try in the final minute to make the score 47-36 at the end of a typical end of season performance.

For Weston Lewis once again had a fine game along with Sparks and the departing Ashton Booth at scrum half.
