Weston-super-Mare RFC

20 - 26

(HT 17-7)

Drybrook RFC

In front of another large crowd Weston started strongly against lead leaders Drybrook but could not unlock a sturdy defence.

Weston lost loose head Will Bamsey in the sixth minute with an injury to be replaced by Oliver Streeter. Drybrook had their tails up and went on the attack but the defence was sound.

Weston then

BBC mom a silly penalty which was kicked to the corner but once again the visitors hands let them down.

A great break by scrum half Ashton Booth led to a Weston penalty after hooker Charlie Owens was poleaxed.

Centre Archie Tilsley scoring the opening three points in the twenty fifth minute.

Weston then scored a beauty of a try through centre Cameron Maslen who cut a great line after receiving the pass from Tilsley who then converted.

Weston were looking dangerous and after a sublime dummy by right wing Ryan Watterston sent full back and captain Christopher Young away to touch down a glorious move Weston were looking good.

Tilsley again adding the extras.

Drybrook started the second half with a well aimed fifty twenty but Weston defended well.

Unfortunately talisman Jay Davis had to leave the field soon after with a shoulder injury.

Drybrook could scent a score and pounded the home line and despite heroic defence eventually Weston conceded a penalty but still somehow kept the league leaders at bay and through all their hard work were rewarded with a penalty of their own which helped them clear their line.

But all the pressure told in the end when Drybrooks fly half ghosted through a gap for a converted try.

Weston then earned a penalty which Tilsley took on from the ten metre line but it fell short.

It was now nip and tuck but errors were thwarting good play by both sides.

A decent kick through put Weston under pressure again and the visitors persistence led to another converted try to leave them only three points in arrears with twenty five minutes remaining.

The visitors were gaining momentum and were rewarded with their third try which wasn't converted.

Weston were not finished yet and put pressure once again on the visitors line but prop Will Bamsey was held up on the line.

Replacement prop Streeter then stole the ball very near the visitors line and was rewarded with a penalty but Drybrook were then awarded a penalty of their own to relieve the pressure.

Weston kept the pressure up and when the referee awarded yet another penalty this time Tilsley took the three points to put the hosts once again in front.

But Drybrook weren't to be denied and scored their fourth try which was again converted to put the visitors once again ahead this time by six points.

With time running out Weston were still in their own half and despite a great effort were unable to escape the shackles and so the league leaders came away with five points but Weston did claim a bonus point which was no more than they deserved for a spirited performance.

Young flankers Tom Lewis and Jacob Simpson both had fine games in a spirited team performance.
