Cleve 18 pts Weston 7 pts
HAD Weston's first-half performance matched their second, they may have got a little closer to Cleve, who were given a head start at Mangotsfield.
Opting to play against a strong easterly wind, they dropped Cleve's kick-off and Goran Vucicevic was in immediate action with a try-saving tackle on Dan Ajuwa, but the hosts were not to be denied, as on two minutes a line-out drive set up a try for Richard Catt.
A penalty by Bath Academy's Luke Cozens followed five minutes later and he soon added another after Takura Madamombe was harshly yellow-carded for an alleged foul tackle.
Weston were forced to reorganise their backs when James Reid went off with an ankle injury Alec Hughes came in on the wing for his 50th senior appearance with Mike Lowis moving to outside half, and Lowis created Weston's only first-half chance with a 40-metre break.
The Seasiders conceded a second try in the 27th minute after a poor defensive option.
Catt was again the scorer and Cozens' conversion took the interval score to 18-0.
For the second half, Weston had the elements in their favour and their line-out provided a platform, but a disjointed performance in midfield prevented much progress.
However, they eventually appeared on the scoreboard when Ashley Russell's catch and drive gave Luke Hember the chance to put Lowis over in the left corner.Lowis added the conversion superbly from the touchline and Paul Sprague and Hember were stopped on the line and Cleve's defence was not breached again.
In what was a disappointing performance, Kevin Hobbs was again outstanding on the flank, as was New Zealander Bryce Noble, whose strength with the ball in hand was a feature
